Recovery

Fight or flight? Jolted back to consciousness to the heavy weight of waves as the storm drags your helpless carcass under the fury of the waves.  You flail utterly helpless as recollection of the events that brought you to this moment come into focus.  Did your boat capsize when you forgot you knew how to swim?  Was your body cascading down from the heavens as the unforgiving lights from the God's decided your fate and the fate of all others in the sky.  Some cruel irony as man ascended into the heavens unbinding by humanities role only to be introduced to another location which we were not welcome. The weakening person tore to the surface again and thirstily gulped for the oxygen your body was so deprived of. Darkness engulfed sight, cognitive functions failed, survival seemed futile.  Then you saw it. It seemed unattainable and perhaps a sick joke life was playing on their eyes. But it was really there.  A life prese...

Il etait une fois . . .

Lights blinded her as She began her assent towards center stage to join the other performer.  No longer could fear hide Her in the wings as t he curtains that once held Her in safety were rapidly breached. She felt the heat of Her blood charge into Her features whilst She desperately attempts to recall Her monopolized speech. A habit She was known for in situations where words no longer mended the imaginary wounds ripped back open by the headlining Martyr.  Walking on egg shells became routine when this opposing force repeatedly brought their own garbage to the stage. Grasping at straws or words - whichever gave solace first - a peace and realization came over Her.  This Martyr fed off her once rampant insecurities. This Martyr was starving from this risen star's regained joy and craved that sweet taste of doubt that once abundantly flowed within Her.  Slowly, the Martyr fell away and the scene was over. The only taste it consumed n...

Never Have I Ever

I'm not sorry.       A smile creeps to her lips as she gave into her defiance. Too long has she waited. Too long has she allowed lucidity to be drowned in an ocean of doubt and subordinate tendencies. No longer must she muster up the courage to defend her spirit of freedom as she tore at her self inflicted restraints. Alas, there would be consequences, but the sweet redemption and promise of emancipation sufficed her apprehension.      The knowledge that never again would she have to explain her comings and goings gave her hope. Longing for her turn to speak and not hold back anymore, she severed their words from penetrating her soul any longer. With that, in a voice she could not quite place, she demanded "Enough" and it was.

And We All Fall Down

Little did she know, this was only the beginning.  Many days, she pushed further than her body would allow.     Living on a strict diet of her cigarettes and caffeine only did so much to keep gears going as she strived to show her worth. Though her performance warranted millions, she learned to survive on pennies and it began to wear on her. Her once bright smile dimmed as she smoked another cigarette to curve that hunger that gnawed at her. Her curls fell in ringlets down her face only to be pinned up and out of her way. Never again would she depend on the kindness of others. Through her short time navigating life on her own, she regularly dueled the bared teeth of this monstrous world.      Yet, she persisted. Not for power nor money, but for a promise she made to herself. Although her body fell into sleep from exhaustion every night, through the nightmares she still searched for dreams. Never giving up on her ambitions, she lit a match to ir...
